This Year’s Garden

The first of two days required to convert equipment over for spring, snow removal to landscaping, is complete. Feels good to have this part done. Everything is bulky, and sturdy. Unfortunately, I am neither. I’m sure I will wake up tomorrow, bent into the shape of a pretzel and grousing about what lies ahead for day two.

The spring contents of the garden shed will cover the entire driveway apron and spill over onto the lawn. The shed’s interior volume is infinitely larger than its exterior would suggest. Not unlike the Tardis when Dr. Who still inspired the use of the imagination.

Winter gear put away is always a bit dicey. Getting the shed to 100% full in an organized fashion is always easy. It’s fitting the additional 25% that requires pitching the shovels and snow markers over the top of the gas powered equipment pile while shouldering the bulging double doors closed.

My vegetable gardens are always expansive, primarily because of the low yield. Heavy loses to under watering, over watering, wrong or mistimed fertilizing, misjudging planting and harvest dates, and wildlife canabalism. Sometimes the plants, particularly carrots, just pull themselves out of the ground and run off screaming into the surrounding woodland. But I keep trying.
